Citizens thrown out of Wichita Police press briefing for asking questions

A group of citizens were forced to leave a Wichita Police Department press briefing for asking questions about the death of John Paul Quintero, the unarmed man who was shot and killed by a Wichita Police officer at the beginning of this year.

The department has promised increased transparency in officer-involved-shootings, but released an animated reenactment of Quintero’s death while redacting the entire police report that is supposed to substantiate their version of the story.

Members of Quintero’s family, joined by a handful of community activists came to the WPD’s daily press briefing hoping to get some answers, but as soon as they started asking questions, Lt. James Espinoza, the police spokesperson, cancelled the briefing, known in media circles as Interwatch.
