DA to consider two factors in release of police shooting video

Wichita activist Djuan Wash has called upon Sedgwick County District Attorney Marc Bennett to release the video footage in Wichita’s most recent police shooting, where the department states that a 17-year-old was running towards the doors of Wichita West High School, with a gun in his hand.

Bennett says that whether or not he releases that video footage will depend on Kansas Supreme Court rules 3.6 and 3.8, which pertain to a defendant’s right to fair trial. Those rules are as defined below:

Rule 3.6
Rule 3.6
Rule 3.8
Rule 3.8

In a letter dated March 10, 2014, District Attorney Bennett details his concerns with HB 2555, which deals with these issues of pretrial disclosure.

Bennett has stated that his office should have an answer on releasing the video within the next day or two.
