Last night, roughly 900 supporters attended a rally for Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, at the Abode Venue in Wichita, Kansas. Oddly, not one media outlet showed up to cover this event. When the Bernie Sanders campaign opened an office in Wichita, the only media outlet to cover the story was the Sunflower, Wichita State University’s student-operated newspaper.
However, when Hillary Clinton opened her campaign office in Wichita, just blocks away from Bernie Sanders’ office, the Wichita news outlets were all over it:
One of Sanders’ supporters questioned KWCH news director Brian Gregory about the lack of coverage for the event, to which Gregory stated that they would cover the Sanders campaign if Bernie Sanders came to Wichita:
Editor’s note: I have been attending political rallies in Wichita for several years, most of which received media coverage. Last night’s event for Bernie Sanders was, by far and away, the most well attended rally I have been to. Paul Davis’ Wichita rally, which he was actually present for while running for governor, only attracted roughly 100 supporters, and was covered by all three news networks, along with the Wichita Eagle.
