Roughly 200 people rallied outside of Century II this morning to protest Donald Trump, who was addressing his supporters inside the Wichita convention hall. Trump, and Cruz were both scheduled to speak this morning at the Sedgwick County Republican Caucus site, and hundreds of those hoping to see the two candidates were still in line outside the building when someone informed the crowd that no one else could enter. Several dozen Trump/Cruz supporters that had already entered the lobby area came back outside, and the anti-Trump supporters, many of whom carried Bernie Sanders signs, formed a line and started chanting at the Trump/Cruz supporters.
Members of the Wichita Police Department and the Sedgwick County Sheriff Department formed something of a human barricade, peacefully forcing the anti-Trump crowd back to the sidewalk.
A Deputy Chief for the WPD was on site, and told us that because the Kansas GOP had rented the facility, the protesters had to stay on the sidewalk, which covers the pavement within 15 feet of the curb. Century II is technically public property, and is maintained by the City of Wichita.
